Preserving the Past...Building the Future

A Capital Campaign for The Highland Center

Over the past decade, The Highland Center has piloted innovative programs to support the arts, the economy, and the community.  We’ve helped 175 businesses and non-profits get started and grow, held ten seasons of the Highland Farmers’ Market, sponsored jobs for 55 local teenagers, and hosted over 90 concerts and theatrical performances.

But now we're in need of improvements.  Our building, which is designated on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places, has not had a major renovation since it was built in 1922.  The building's limitations- faulty heating and plumbing systems, inaccessible restrooms and entrances, insufficient accoustics, and limited capacity for incubator businesses- are impeding the growth and success of our programs.

Our planned renovations include:

These improvements will modernize the building for the convenience of tenants and visitors, maintain a vibrant center of activity for area residents, and preserve a cherished landmark for future generations.  This is an important investment in our community, and we need your support.
